Image First - Why Your Identity Journey Begins with the Visual

We don’t think our way into a new identity. We see our way into it.

Most branding begins with words.

A strategy. A positioning statement. A message.

SelfMagic begins somewhere else.

With an image.

Because before we can introduce ourselves… we need to see ourselves differently.

Women don’t need better photos.

They need to meet themselves again.

Image First

We don’t use images to illustrate who we already are.

We use them to discover who we’re becoming.

That’s the difference.

Image comes before language.

Discovery comes before definition.

Seeing comes before saying.

Becoming is a visual process

Think about the biggest changes in your life.

They didn’t arrive with a tagline.

They arrived with a different way of carrying yourself.

A different haircut.

A different sparkle in your eyes.

A different color you suddenly couldn’t stop wearing.

A different room.

A different season.

Long before you could explain the change… you could already see it.
Your body knew. Your images knew.

You just hadn’t caught up with them yet.

We have the order backwards

Most personal branding looks like this:

Think. Write. Define. Plan.
Then…

take the photos.

As if the images are there to illustrate a conclusion you’ve already reached.

SelfMagic flips the order.

Image First.

Because your next identity isn’t waiting in your head.

It’s waiting to be witnessed.

The Image First Cycle

A living process of self-discovery, authorship, and creative evolution.

Image-Led Discovery →

Repeat.

Because you don’t become yourself once.

Here’s the truth no one talks about:
The #1 reason women struggle to fully show up in their personal brand isn’t strategy, skill, or even clarity.
It’s all tied around their image.

Here’s the thing.

I thought I was taking photographs.

I was actually collecting evidence.

Evidence of who I was becoming.

One image didn’t change my life.

A body of images did.

Patterns started appearing.

Not because I was looking for them.

Because they kept returning.

Again. And again. And again.

Why it works

Your images don’t ask you to perform.
They invite you to notice.

Your body gets a voice.
Instead of thinking your way into a new identity… you experience it.

Patterns become visible.
Your creative signature isn’t invented. It’s recognized.

Your Visual Brand Bank grows naturally.

The same images that help you discover yourself… become the creative assets that express your work. Discovery and expression happen together.

The Emotional Layer

Here's what is often missed: The emotional, unspoken part that shapes how you see yourself. Not everyone talks about it—but behind the polished feed, the clever copy, and the latest photoshoot… is the tender part that still wonders:

Is it safe to be fully seen?

And that reflection is loaded with hidden weight:

  • Body shame passed down for generations
  • Scripts about what's "appropriate" for women
  • Hyper-visibility without true connection
  • Pressure to stay pretty, relevant, and ideally… forever young

My Story

Even as a branding expert, I found myself stuck when it came to branding me.

I explored every framework I could find:
Human Design, CliftonStrengths, Astrology, Personality Archetypes—you name it.
They all gave me language.

None of them showed me… me.
It was like stuffing all of me into a ziplock bag… well labeled, but not expressed.

Then one day, I made a pink-glam self-portrait.
No stylist. No team. Just me and the camera.

That single image became a visual anchor for years of creative work.

It showed me someone I didn’t know I was allowed to be.

And once I’d seen her…

I couldn’t unsee her.

It’s not about getting “camera ready.” It’s about revealing parts of yourself you didn’t know you had access to.

Image First isn’t about photography.

It’s about orientation.

Your images become landmarks.

Little pieces of evidence that help you recognize yourself.

Again.

And again.

Until one day…

you stop asking, "Who am I?”

and begin asking, "What’s becoming visible now?”

What I Didn’t Expect…

Seeing yourself differently changes everything.

But first…

you have to reclaim the relationship with the woman in the picture.

Because image work isn’t just creative work.

It’s healing work.

Especially if you’re a woman.

“Going through the photos sparks certainty in a perspective I want to share and have that represented in. There is no equations about “what’s my message. ” No need to question that.”
